Product Description

by Denise Pathiakis (Illustrator), Jillian Marie Shea (Author)

Malena and Klepetan are legendary storks nesting in Brodski Varos, Croatia. In 1993, Malena was shot by a cruel poacher, who abandoned her on a riverbank to die. Stjepan Vokic rescued the stricken stork and nursed her back to health. Miraculously Malena did live, but her right wing was permanently maimed so she can no longer migrate with her flock to the savannas of South Africa. She remains in Croatia throughout the winter months and Stjepan takes care of her. Fifteen years ago, Klepetan circled her nest several times, swooped down and took Malena as his bride. These two magnificent storks have been in love ever since. Klepetan is still a wild stork, however, and migrates to South Africa every winter, while Malena anxiously awaits his return each spring. Malena and Klepetan have raised 57 baby storks in the 15 years they've been together.A portion of the author's proceeds will be donated to Stjepan Vokic to purchase chicken and other necessities for Malena, Klepetan and their babies. Stjepan fishes every day, but cannot reel in enough fish to feed the entire stork family. Every single book sale will help provide food for these amazing lovebirds!
