Author Biography

Dr. Matthew Winterton is the leading scholar on modern Malagasy. After learning Malagasy as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Madagascar, Dr. Winterton developed the first bilingual Malagasy-English frequency dictionary. He has taught several university courses on the Malagasy language, history, and culture and founded the Malagasy program in the Department of African Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. His course content can be found in the series MiLAZA!, the most comprehensive and authoritative source on the modern Malagasy language.
