Author Biography
Sofie Vantiers (born 1979 in Belgium) is the mother of 2 boys, a former research scientist and a writer on pregnancy, childbirth, psychology, parenting and relationships. She holds a Master's degree in Geology, an M.Sc. in Oceanography, a Ph.D. in Geophysics and did three years of post-doctoral research at the University of Texas at Austin (U.S.) and at the University of Southampton (U.K.). Her experience as a researcher showed her how scientific knowledge is acquired and how received opinion can change. Most significantly it gave her the confidence to dig into the medical literature and do her own research in preparation for her own pregnancy, which ultimately led to her writing. In addition to well-researched and current information that is indispensable to parents as well as health professionals, her writing includes narratives of her personal experiences (in Belgium, the U.K., the U.S., and France) and stories from her international group of friends and family, with representatives of Belgian, English, Irish, French, American, Canadian, Australian, and German nationalities living in a variety of countries.
