Julien-Ernest Houssay (1840-1912), the Abbé Julio, was a former priest of the Roman Catholic Church, a hero of the Franco-Prussian War, and one of the most remarkable spiritual healers of the French esoteric revival. Expelled from Rome for his denunciations of clerical corruption, he found his true vocation as a thaumaturge and theurgic priest, transmitting the secret healing knowledge of the mystic Jean Sempé in a comprehensive three-volume system of Catholic theurgy and spiritism. Liturgical Prayers is the second and most liturgically rich of those three volumes.
At the heart of this volume is the full ritual of the Mass in both Latin and English, together with hymns, sequences, and ritual prayers for the feasts of the liturgical year. Also included is a complete perpetual calendar drawn from both the pre-Vatican II Roman rite and the liturgical usage of Joseph-René Vilatte's Église Catholique Française - the latter of particular significance to clergy within the Independent Sacramental Movement, for whom Vilatte's lineage remains a foundational apostolic channel. A comprehensive table of moveable feasts has been updated from the original to serve the needs of the modern practitioner.
The volume's most practically useful sections are its novenas and invocations of the Saints for every circumstance of life, accompanied by biographical notes on each Saint - including an illuminating discussion of the sympathetic and folk-medicine principles by which certain Saints were associated with particular ailments and conditions. A full alphabetical index of cases, keyed to the appropriate novenas, prayers, and Saints, rounds out what +Michael Matrone III rightly calls "a magnificent instrument" for the priest-healer and lay thaumaturge alike.
This first English edition is translated and introduced by Tau Phosphoros, Patriarch of the Apostolic Church of the Pleroma, who places the volume's liturgical contents within the broader context of Abbé Julio's occult theology and his enduring connections to the Gnostic Church.
