It is meant to be light reading and a gateway to help adult learners (usually age 16 and higher) to read longer, more complex English literature, as well as to develop extensive reading skills. The book has been reviewed and approved by Adult learners. The author ran a book club for her students and found that mostly children's books were readily available at her students' reading levels. Something more dignified and respectful of adult learners was in order so that adults learning English, whether for adult literacy or ESL purposes, could read simply-written books that reflect adult life.
