Sheriff Holland arrests the shooter, who makes a daring jail escape aided by an accomplice who blow-up the Bent Creek Sheriff's office. Clay Holland teams up with Texas Ranger Bonner O'Toole to track the escapee to the El Paso area and they become embroiled in the riotous events of the salt war. During the Sheriff's absence, a band of outlaw brothers robs the Bent Creek Bank, shooting saloon operator Betsy Brown, a close friend to the Sheriff, who had entered the bank just as the robbery began.
