His son Fernando, a lawyer, has the rank of captain and is the head of the Department of Technical Investigations in Santiago de Cuba, which investigates common crimes. In a cave of the Sierra Maestra, a farmer's child discovers by chance the decade old skeleton of a murdered man. Captain Bachicao is intrigued by certain interesting details of the discovery and is in charge of the case. Their research will lead to a tragedy whose climax will take place in New Orleans during the onsslaugh of Hurricane Katrina.
