It's 1936 and King Edward VIII must make a choice: keep his crown or marry Wallis Simpson. Wallis is a divorcee. If he marries her, he must abdicate. But what if he keeps her as his mistress and thereby keeps his crown? Would Wallis accept a life in the shadows? Might she become the power behind the throne? It is the Great Depression. The people are hungry. Edward demands: 'Something must be done, ' but the politicians are deaf to his concerns. Meanwhile, Hitler and Stalin are on the rampage. War looms.
