Joy of the World is a collection of 31 international devotionals for the Christmas season. Each one was written from the perspective of an international Christian leader. There is a devotional to be enjoyed for each day of December. Each one is told from the perspective of a different area of the world. These backgrounds provides different lenses to appreciate the story of the birth of Jesus. Each devotional contains historical, religious, or political information from a different part of the world. There is also a Bible verse related to the Christmas story. Each devotional concludes with a prayer request for the particular country featured. Joy of the World illustrates the diversity and vitality of the Christian faith at Christmas time. While many think of Christianity as a western religion, it is vibrant in Africa, Asia, South America, and Eastern Europe. These viewpoints will broaden Christians celebrating the Christmas season, particularly those in the West. Joy of the World concludes with 7 suggestions to pray for the world beyond the Christmas season.
Author Biography
Drake Williams is an American who has lived in Western Europe for 10 years. He serves at the Tyndale Theological Seminary outside of Amsterdam. Students have come to this school from over 70 different countries to train to serve as pastors, teachers, and Christian workers. He is the Academic Dean and Professor of New Testament. He has written or edited several other books both scholarly and popular: Making Sense of the Bible: A Study of 10 Key Themes traced through Scripture (Kregel), Caspar Schwenckfeld: Eight Writings On Christian Beliefs (Pandora), The Wisdom of the Wise: the Presence and Function of Scripture in 1 Corinthians 1:18-3:23 (Brill), and My Brother's Keeper (Wipf and Stock). Prior to serving in the Netherlands, he served as a pastor at the Central Schwenkfelder Church in Worcester, PA. He continues to preach in various churches in Europe and in the USA.
