Product Description

by Mary Ellen Halloran (Editor), Jimmy Halloran (Author)

This is a memoir about drug addiction. Jimmy Halloran tells his version from a very young age, which gives the reader a sense of how early experiences and circumstances can be factors leading to addiction. He writes about what it was like being addicted to drugs and the daily insane activities of dope-fiend behavior. Jimmy talks about hitting rock bottom and kicking his habit, and discusses rebounding and the determination required in the battle to recover his life and his sanity. Further, he offers an insider's behind-the-scenes view of the activities that took place during treatment in a therapeutic treatment facility. Having survived his addiction, Jimmy provides thought-provoking observations about life and vignettes from his experiences of living a drug-free, clean life. Jimmy wrote this book to show that it is possible for those addicted to narcotic drugs to overcome their problems and start living a normal life. His lifestyle of a hard-core drug addict for many years was torturous and he makes it clear that he easily understands why those who find themselves in the same painful predicament would want to cut their lives short and simply end it all by overdosing. Jimmy believes that life is short enough as it is without rushing death. Just being alive is in itself nothing short of a miracle that we too often take for granted. He offers the inspiring message that life is precious and that sometimes we need a wake-up call to realize it. For some, that call can come when they feel trapped in an addiction with seemingly no way out. Suddenly something unexpected may come along, like an opportunity for change and relief. Jimmy's hope is that, for some reading this, it will be their way out.
