Product Description

by Darryle Buchanan (Author)

Memoir by Darryle Buchanan, educator and community leader. Buchanan is a tireless advocate for youth and community development. He is the former Director of The Obama Foundation's My Brother's Keeper Initiative for the state of Michigan. He proudly served as President of the Southfield Board of Education, of which he was a trustee from 2005-2014. He diligently serves as a mentor for students who are in the greatest need of compassion and understanding and he has been instrumental in involving fellow members of the community in this endeavor. He co-founded a non-profit organization, Transition Basketball of Michigan, using players' love of athletics to inspire them to achieve success in other areas of their lives. As a result of participating in this program, many young men have received athletic and academic scholarships, networked with business and community leaders, and have been motivated to attain higher levels of academic and personal accomplishment. He has also served as vice president of the Michigan Association of School Boards' Board of Directors (MASB). Buchanan served as boys varsity head basketball coach at Southfield Arts & Technology High School.
