Product Description

by Debby Hotton (Author)

In My Mother's Shadow is a reflection on a childhood overshadowed by a mentally ill parent,

in a strictly Brethren home in 1960s―70s Dunedin, New Zealand. Not shared till now, Debby's story is one of loss, suffering, abuse and ultimately, determination.

In Debby's debut book, she tells her story of losing her Father at age seven, and being raised alone by her Mother who suffered from Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, and Religious delusions. In an increasingly abusive and strictly religious environment, Debby fought her way out from under her Mother's shadow.

She hopes that in telling her story, she is able to bring these festering events out into the light, exposing them for what they were, and hopefully reaching out to others who may resonate with her experiences.
