Castiglione has developed and used these exact steps to stop gay bashings that were rampant in Long Beach, Ca. in the 1970s through the 1990s. He established the Hate Crime Reporting Hotline in 1986. Although this phoneline was widely and consistently advertised throughout the LGBTQ community for six years, the hate crime reports dropped to near zero. This is because he worked tirelessly with the police department to improve its tactics, training, and policies.
Minorities in many cities are under attack by haters perpetrating assaults on their members. This violence must be stopped. The good news is we can go a long way toward eliminating this violence.
