Product Description

by Tom Kundig (Foreword by), Jordan MacKay (Introduction by), Canan Yetmen (Contribution by)

Located at the eastern edge of the Texas Hill Country, the private wine cave explored in this architectural monograph is hidden along a secluded river bend but actually just a short stroll from the amenities available at the nearby ranch. The project was designed to take advantage of an existing excavated cave in the north face of a solid limestone hillside. Protected on the east and west by tall oak and elm trees, the shot-crete lined tube can barely be seen within the native landscape. The unassuming exterior entry court offers a little mystery, revealing only a hint of what lies within. Heavy limestone boulders, collected from the excavation, and lush vegetation further camouflage the entry to the mouth of the cave. Hill Country Wine Cave delivers a privileged insight into how the architectural firm Clayton Korte conceived, planned and executed this discreet architectural masterpiece.
