Author Biography
Dr. James Hargrove resides on St. George Island, where he has lived since retiring from the University of Georgia in 2012. After earning a B.S. degree in Biological Oceanography from the University of Washington, graduate studies led to a career in teaching and research in cell biology at Emory University and nutrition science at the University of Georgia. He has written a biography of Apalachicola resident and former mayor, William Popham, entitled "The Oyster King. The Man Who Bought St. George Island." "Hell's Angels Bombardier" is an updated memoir of his father's escape and evasion from occupied France during World War II, and "Cape St. George Lighthouse and Apalachicola Bay" is an illustrated history of lighthouses in the Florida Panhandle. Mr. Hargrove volunteers as a docent at the Cape St. George Lighthouse Museum and helps with field work at the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve.
