Product Description

by Maggie Horgan (Author)

Heartifacts brings hope and inspiration to people in dire need of both: people who have borne unfathomable loss. Maggie Horgan has already shared her unique story as a speaker before hundreds of families and professionals at hospitals, support groups and memorial services in her home state of Pennsylvania. Her message is fresh, timeless, and enlightening, despite the anguish she and her children have survived. Like too many others, her family has faced a loss that none should have to bear: the loss of a child.

In 2001, Maggie's firstborn son, Neil, lost his life to cancer. Drowning in grief, Maggie knew that she needed to find a way to move on as the single mother of three other children. Her strength and ability to do so came from her son Neil-and a heart-shaped stone that appeared in the most unlikely of places.

For parents, siblings, doctors, nurses, social workers, and educators-and all those who grieve for a child-Heartifacts shares a compassionate message of healing in line with the work of Melody Beattie and Mitch Albom; it is anchored in the profoundly personal.

Author Biography

Maggie (Margaret Mary) Horgan holds a degree in health planning and administration from Pennsylvania State University. She spent twenty-five years as a dedicated homemaker, devoted mother, child advocate, and community activist. Maggie currently acts as a writer and speaker, and she has shared her message with audiences at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Institute of Noetic Sciences, and with American military veterans. She considers Heartifacts to be her fifth baby as it was created in collaboration with heaven and is a manifestation of love.
