Product Description

by Evelyn Dykes Chriswell (Author)

"Grambo: The True Adventures of an American Grandmother in Baghdad...and Beyond" is the inspiring, faith-filled memoir chronicling the life of Evelyn Chriswell, a Pentecostal Christian who went to work as a civilian contractor in Iraq during some of the war's most turbulent early days. It is a gripping and insightful story which documents her life growing up in Louisiana, her early marriage to a fiery faith healer and their work as missionaries, and continues her journey of love and loss across the globe. Chriswell's life has been a tapestry of triumph and tragedy, but through it all, her faith sustains her. First and foremost, the author is a devout Christian whose perseverance and humor shines through every page. Though the backdrop is the Iraq war, the book at its essence is a touching love story between a man and a woman, and a woman and her Lord.

Author Biography

Evelyn Chriswell has served as a civilian statistical analyst with the Dept of the Army, missionary, minister s wife, Sunday School teacher, Small Groups Administrator, pianist, organist, counselor, and program manager for various social service agencies. As a Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Regional Manager in Baghdad from 2004 to 2007, she oversaw the administration and management of all professional and technical staff in 57 MWR facilities for American and Coalition Forces. She considers her role as a mother of two, grandmother of three; and two stepchildren, five step grandchildren to be her most important position. Evelyn was a contributing author to the book, My Name is Christian Woman, and continues as an inspirational speaker to groups around the globe. Though she has lived all over the world, Evelyn now calls Louisiana home, and can often be found riding her four-wheeler through the woods in the rain. She is a kind and gentle soul who knows we can do all things through Christ, who strengthens us, because she has lived it!"
