On a small farm in Australia, a mother and daughter see a big wombat sitting in the backyard during a rainstorm. They put on raincoats, and the daughter, Cindy, gives the wombat a carrot to eat. The wombat was very hungry and ate the carrot quickly. Holding out another carrot, Cindy said to the wombat, "follow us to the porch to get out of the rain. We have lots of carrots for you to eat." The wombat followed Cindy and her mom onto the back porch. They gave the wombat a blanket to sit on, and dried it off with towels. The wombat ate more carrots, then fell asleep on its blanket. And so began the loving friendship, between a young farm girl and an old wombat.
