Crox visits the forest where he had a horrific car crash years earlier. He was saved from death by a tiny kitten that lived in the woods. He names the life-saving kitten Lucky. While walking in the woods, he comes across a black cat with emerald green eyes, the same color Lucky had.
Crox realizes he can hear the cat telepathically, who tells him his name is Jax, and he needs his help to save the trapped souls from the Shadow.
