Product Description

by María Fernández-Miranda (Author)

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Everyone knows his work. Nobody knows the man.

Cristóbal Balenciaga never appeared at his fashion shows or came out to take a bow at the end. If the legends are to be believed, the famous Basque designer observed the proceedings through a discrete peephole in the thick velvet curtains that decorated his mansion. Few photos of him exist, and rumors have even circulated that the invisible man of the world of haute couture was an invented character, nothing more than a clever marketing strategy. Without a doubt, however, "the best designer of all time," as Christian Dior or Coco Chanel called him, was more concerned with prestige than fame. His creations are immortal, almost as great as the mystery that still surrounds his life.

María Fernández-Miranda takes an original approach to an exceptional and one-of-a-kind figure. Taking on the guise of her subject, she paints a multifaceted portrait in eight scenes that illuminate his emotional and creative life. This book is a map of landscapes, colors, textiles and fragrances that take us from the hilly streets of his hometown of Getaria to the elegant Paris avenues of the golden age of high fashion, inviting us to discover the enigma that is Balenciaga.
