The Gift of the Holy Spirit
The Gift of the Holy Spirit by Dr Gary Shogren, aims to explore the doctrine of the Holy Spirit.
Specifically his person, the relationship between the apostolic church and today's church, his gifts and his work in the formation of the church. It is carried out through exegetical, theological and historical research.
This is an academic book, but its focus is on the application for today's church with its ecclesial and socio-cultural challenges.
The book is divided into three blocks of essays:
- The Spirit of God in selected texts of the New Testament.
- The Spirit in the Patristic Church
- The Spirit in the Latin American Church
- Appendix: Craig Keener, A Review of John MacArthur, Strange Fire: The Danger of Offending the Holy Spirit with False Worship.
The book is not a complete treatment of the Spirit and his gifts but a scholarly approach to the major issues that today's believers face, both on a personal level and in ecclesial settings.
A book of constructive academic criticism, as Dr. Gary Shogren is at home dealing with the most important and controversial issues, such as the practical absence of the Spirit in our theology on the one hand, or the extreme manipulation of his power on the other.
