Echoes of the Agua Chiquita tells the story of a quiet, hidden place in the back country of New Mexico. This history sheds light on a little known, out of the way part of the Sacramento Mountains of southern New Mexico. The area is surrounded by the scenes of Billy the Kid, Apaches and Cavalry, Pancho Villa, A bombs and rockets, but its past is a truer picture of daily life on the frontier. It is also an account of how historians find sources to collect the stories they tell and will help the reader see that this is not always a straightforward process.
Author Biography
R. Kermit Hill, Jr. went from Santa Fe to the Agua Chiquita in 1949 at age seven. He began collecting the history of the area in 1981 and was fortunate to have been able to interview many old-timers who are gone now. He graduated from Weed Junior High, Alamogordo High School and the University of New Mexico. Forty-three years of teaching history followed. He now lives in Santa Fe and often visits Sacramento on the Agua Chiquita.
