Amidst preparations for these big events, a rare weather phenomenon brings about destruction and mayhem. Then an odd death catches the attention of Tommy Young, deputy for the town, as well as a Pinkerton. With no evidence of any wrongdoing, it's put down as an accident.
Jane and Cole are busier than ever, expanding their business, and their family. When their ward Sally is attacked, they begin to think Tommy might be right that something odd is happening.
Sally has spent the past several years doing all she can to be a good and proper child for Jane and Cole, whom she's come to see as her true parents. She's afraid to tell them the truth about what she wants out of life. She's not even sure what she wants, except for one thing. To learn to do what Tommy does-to become a detective. Her attack cements it in her mind and heart, if only she has the gumption to tell her family.
As Sally begins to pursue a life she could only dream of, the odd deaths and attacks in town begin to mount. Is it a pattern? Or simply coincidence?
