Progressivism is not primarily a system of belief. It is a power strategy based upon the centralization of authority. Therefore to radically decentralize society is to destroy progressivism. And our ability to radically decentralize American society is now very real. It is the next step in the technological revolution.
The first task is to replace the current Internet with a radically decentralized Internet. Although such a project is neither easy nor simple, it is surprisingly easier and simpler than one might expect. Welcome to the revolutionary software program called Urbit.
The second task is the creation of "smart contracts." These are digital contracts that are self-enforcing and thus do not require judges or lawyers to interpret them. The smart contract revolution has already begun.
The third task is to place smart contracts and other permanent records on digital blockchains that are unalterable by design. Blockchains are already becoming the primary method for creating unalterable contracts and records.
The fourth task is to employ blockchains to create forms of digital money that cannot be counterfeited, inflated, or controlled by any third parties, including government. Security of ownership is also guaranteed. The cryptocurrency revolution, which is being led by Bitcoin, is well underway.
The fifth task is to create a blockchain that will enable a radically decentralized society made up of millions of smart contracts. Ethereum is currently the leading example of such a blockchain. Ethereum permits the creation of a radical new kind of human organization, which is called the DAO or Decentralized Autonomous Organization.
Progressivism ultimately stands or falls on the practical ability of progressives to exercise centralized authority. The current technological revolution points in the direction of the destruction of all centralized authority.
