Product Description

by Bereket Selassie (Author)

Synopsis: THE BOOK FOCUSES ON THE CRITICAL AND PROBLEMATIC GLOBAL ISSUE OF MASS MIGRATION.

...It begins thus: "A Time Marked by Chaos in Government-widespread moral bankruptcy- corruption other threat of nuclear war and the phenomenon of migration creating political and social problems provoking conflict within and among nations.

Its three principal characters are united by a common objective of helping in the settlement of conflicts within and among nations. The central character is Isabel Nagassa, a young woman whose Ethiopian father was a leading revolutionary leader in Ethiopia, but her French mother is left fending for her and her younger infant sister while historical events happen in Ethiopia. Her father was eventually assassinated by the military government of Ethiopia, and she grew up missing a father that she adored and who was also adored by millions and respected by fellow revolutionaries in Ethiopia and Europe. When she and her two friends-one German social Democrat (Stefan), and another, a Sudanese (Rashid), a world-famous soccer star and fellow student and friend of Stefan agree to help Isabel discover her father's killers. e trio bond and make a pledget to set about a dangerous adventure of helping Isabel discover her father's killers and trace his hallowed burial ground. All kinds of substories occur, leading to a dramatic end in which some are killed.

Autobiography: The author is an emeritus Distinguished Professor of African Studies and Professor of Law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His Memoirs, " The Crown and the Pen," relates the story of a man straddled two worlds-a progressive lawyer and Attorney General of Ethiopia's Emperor Haile Selassie. He thus struggled for justice within an archaic system bedeviled with imperial Court intrigue. He was banished to a distant province and eventually escaped to his native Eritrea, where he joined the armed struggle for independence. His Memoirs, and his novel Riding the Whirlwind (1993) paint a dramatic picture of a tumultuous life saddled with tension involving opposing ideas and forces. Out of Africa, he settled in America and began an academic life, writing over twenty books, including works of fiction. DEFIANCE...is his third novel. He was appointed to head the Constitutional Commission that drafted a new constitution of Eritrea. His latest book is CRITICAL NARRATIVE AND REFLECTIONS ON Ethiopian History-From the Kingdom of Aksum to Menelik's Multi-ethnic Empire.

Selassie is a highly sought-after educator and speaker.
