He also draws from his childhood experience in the then-Soviet Union. He notes: "Growing up on the 'wrong' side of the Iron Curtain, I personally witnessed life in an authoritarian state where basic human rights were suppressed in the name of state security." Like dystopian classics 1984 and A Clockwork Orange, this is a warning about how quickly history can repeat itself anywhere in the world at any time.
