Product Description

by Heinz Sponsel (Translator), Monica Gold (Translator)

Originally published in 1949, this lively book is an established treasure in Germany. Translated by Monica Gold it depicts the life struggles and striving of the Polish astronomer Nikolaus Copernicus. It is of value as a reader for seventh and eighth graders.

Author Biography

Monica Gold, translator of this book by Heinz, Sponsel, remembered this book from her own youth and yearned to relocate it so that she could make it available to youngsters in the English speaking world. She has succeeded and has translated with fluid clarity this rich story of a blossoming of a scientist in a time when doctrine and accepted "truth" weighed against all he knew to be true. A fine book for adolescence who might feel in a similar way about their own situation!
