Product Description

by Dinesh Subhraveti (Author)

Container technology is one of the fastest-growing software development areas in the computing industry today. Despite this rapid growth and attendant media rhetoric, clear and concise description of the underlying technology and its core value is missing. Learning about the inner workings of containers will help developers and enterprises apply this important innovation more effectively in their respective endeavors. In this book, Dinesh Subhraveti, an early inventor of the technology, presents deep insights into it in a simple and accessible manner. His presentation takes the mystery out of the internals of the technology by exposing the heretofore hidden harmony that underlies it.

Author Biography

Dinesh Subhraveti is the cofounder and CTO at AppOrbit. He developed the notion of operating system-level virtualization and containers as a part of his Ph.D. dissertation. Published in 2002, his work showed, for the first time, that enterprise applications could be virtualized and live-migrated. Applying his early research, Dinesh drove development of the industry's first container virtualization product for enterprise Linux applications at Meiosys, the company behind Linux containers acquired by IBM in 2005. Dinesh has authored more than 35 key research papers and patents on a wide range of systems topics including container virtualization, checkpoint-restore, live-migration, record-replay. He holds a Ph.D. degree in computer science from Columbia University.
