Product Description

by Erin Powe (Author)

Consolations in the Night is a love letter to the night sky and its Maker. It chronicles a wrestling for joy and to know that "the Lord, He is good" in the midst of my four years of undergraduate studies. During these years, I have oftentimes found myself on long walks in the starry night, seeking answers from the Lord and seeking consolation in my sorrow and questioning. The moon and stars have become more precious to me during this time and are now a beautiful symbol of God's presence and provision in my life, and so they are a consistent theme in these poems. Many of these verses were borne from a heart of fear, anxiety, or bitterness: from a battle with sin. Some were borne in a search for the truth or in praise. They are for the weary traveler whose emotions or sins threaten to overcome them, who are tempted to doubt Jesus' character, even to "curse God and die," as Job's wife exhorted him. God has a beautiful purpose in both your exultation and your suffering, and He is with us in the metaphorical "dark night of the soul," and we can always give thanks. The stars glimmer in the night, even though the clouds may hide them. These poems have been a gift to me and have helped me cry out to the Lord Jesus for His help and to rejoice in His creation and His word. I hope they can be of use to you.
