On March 25, 2009, The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Doctrine issued their Guidelines for Evaluating Reiki as an Alternative Therapy. The final statement of this document summarizes the Bishop's conclusions regarding Reiki: "Since Reiki therapy is not compatible with either Christian teaching or scientific evidence, it would be inappropriate for Catholic Institutions or people representing the Church to promote or provide support for Reiki therapy." This prohibitive posture of the American Catholic Bishops is not unique among religious authorities and has brought to the forefront the question about how Reiki and other hands-on-healing modalities may or may not fit within the context of Christian teaching. Christouch answers that question. Through scripture, exercises for personal reflection and practical instruction, Christouch provides valuable support for hands-on healers who desire to perform their practice within the context of the Christian tradition.
