There is an old saying, "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." The same is true for a mentor.
In 2005 I found the book, The Divine Mentor by Wayne Cordeiro. I can say that as a student of the Word, I was ready, hungry, and thirsty. I have faithfully applied his plan for over eighteen years.
About year fifteen the Holy Spirit began to prompt me to develop my own system. I changed the acronym because prayer is so central to a disciple's life and growth. I added elements of music (central to my worship of God), scripture memorization (central to a biblical worldview and spiritual maturation), and an overview of each book of the bible (linked to the Bible Project).
I encourage you to make the transition from a devotional lifestyle to a journaling lifestyle. What is the difference between the two? One is a vicarious lifestyle, the other requires digging, effort, and personal engagement with the Holy Spirit. One is a compilation of someone's thoughts about a text. The other is a one on one between you and the Holy Spirit. I hope you will choose mentorship by The Divine (John 16:13).
