Author Biography
Joe Bonpensiero was born, raised and schooled in San Diego's WOP town, which grew over the years to become "Little Italy." Working with his immigrant relatives, he learned to speak Sicilian, cope with a vessel without a lavatory and found that the only way off the boat was through hard work and education. His skipper father encouraged him to attend school rather than perform a life of back breaking work in the fishing game. Joey fished the summers and on weekends and pursued a college education. He also chose the Air Force as a career path and graduated from San Diego State College in 1962 while also earning a simultaneous Air Force commission. He was sent to Jet Pilot Training, but found that flying wasn't his first love. Over his twenty-year military career, he was challenged to write as a member of the USAF Inspector General's staff and continued to study gaining a graduate degree from Golden Gate University. Joe's avocation is writing and he currently works on improving his craft while studying with the LongRidge writers group. Joe's extensive travels and over twelve years living outside the USA find him occasionally picking up a theme or memory from places he's been and reflecting those events in a story. He is currently finishing his Vietnam memoir entitled Dinner in Happy Valley. His next in process memoir "Niputi" (Nephew) is a true crime reflection of Guilt through Association. He played the Seeing Eye Dog for notorious California "Hit Man", Frank Bompensiero after his parole from San Quentin Prison. Joe relates of life being painted with a Guilt Through Association brush because you are related to someone of dubious repute.
