Product Description

by Eric N. Danielson (Photographer), Eric N. Danielson (Author)

Volume II of a bilingual pictorial history and itinerary of the Fishing City (Diaoyu Cheng), a historic Song Dynasty fortress located in the rural outskirts of the city of Chongqing, China. This was the last fortress of the Southern Song Dynasty to surrender to the invading Mongols, outlasting even the capture of their capital city in Hangzhou. In an incredible event of military history, the fortress held out against attack for over three decades. Today you can still see the surviving relics of the city walls and city gates that made the Fishing City an impregnable fortress that could not be captured. This is the first ever English language history and description of the site, with over 500 color photographs in two volumes, based on both Chinese language sources and three first-hand eyewitness field studies.
