Within each section composers are arranged alphabetically; each entry provides biographical information as well as commission, duration, instrumentation, date of publication, premiere, publisher, discography for each composition. Backmatter includes a Brass Music Index which groups the music by numbers, medium, and ensembles; a title index; discography; and bibliography. AARON HORNE is Professor of Music at Northeastern Illinois University. He is presently on leave, serving as Interim Chair, Department of African American Studies, Western Illinois University. Among his earlier publications are Woodwind Music of Black Composers, String Music of Black Composers, and Keyboard Music of Black Composers (Greenwood Press, 1990, 1991, and 1992 respectively).
