Author Biography

Born in Washington DC I attended Yale University's Summer High School and Transitional Year Program after failing the 12th grade. I worked as first janitor then photography instructor as I earned a BA at DC based Antioch College-BHP in 1974. I completed an MA in African American Studies at Yale in 1983 after teaching English with the YMCA in Asia and leading students in Mali, French West Africa with Operation Crossroads, Inc., in 1983. While at Yale I worked as an IBM Systems Engineer before earning a Film Production Certificate at NYU. I earned a Political Science MA at UCLA in 1986 and a UC Berkeley PhD in Ethnic Studies in 1993. I was Assistant Professor of Political Economy in the African American Studies Department at Rutgers University-Newark when Rutgers University Press published my dissertation, Black Film/White Money, in 1996. In June 2011 I self-published Black Harvard/Black Yale (https: //www.createspace.com/3615992) with createspace.com and got a great review by the editor of the Yale Alumni Magazine: http: //www.yalealumnimagazine.com/issues/2011_09/editor.html Since denial of tenure in 2003, I have contended with hip replacements, heart disease and cancer, which forced my return to the warmer, flatter terrain of Los Angeles, CA. I taught English near Madrid, Spain with Vaughantown in 2006 and in La Rioja, Spain with Auxiliares Norteamericanos de Conversación in November 2010. In Summer 2012 spent one month in Aix-en-Provence, France with Yale Educational Travel program and hope soon to publish my new book, Blue Sky for Black America: Utopia and African American Development. I'm still single and have no kids, began this month to write book reviews for http: //www.writerswhorock.com and have started again making West African Peanut Stew as I did on my return from Mali.
