Recently I paid $99 dollars to 23andMe.com to explore just what my DNA spit would spit out. Many of my brothers and sisters are too busy smoking weed and drinking liquor t be concerned and much less finance their own genealogy research.I was inspired by Alex Haley book and movie roots to look into my ancestry. I will give some excerpts of his movie and genealogy information.For a long time I was a captive audience to Malcolm X's lectures on why he used X as his last name. The Nation of Islam and Malcolm X taught that the Blackman should shed himself of his slave master's name. This would be a good policy but I wouldn't take an Arab name because they enslaved black people a thousand years before the Europeans. Now if 30% of my DNA is European then having a name with them don't make a difference. I looked into my mother's side and found out that my 2nd great grandmother told the census takers she was mulatto and her last name was McElroy.
