Birch Plays: 1 celebrates the work of Welsh writer Brad Birch. Winner of the 2016 Harold Pinter Commission for the Royal Court Theatre Birch is the writer in residence at Undeb Theatre and is currently on attachment at the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. His work has been produced by the Royal Court, Sherman Cymru, Theatre503 and the National Youth Theatre as well as around the world in Russia, the USA, Italy, Germany and Spain.
Bringing together plays from throughout his career to date this remarkable collection includes a selection of previously published and unpublished works along with an introduction by the author. Brad Birch's theatre work includes Black Mountain for Paines Plough, Theatr Clwyd and the Orange Tree; This Must be the Place for Poleroid at the VAULT Festival; The Brink at the Orange Tree; An Enemy of the People and The Endless Ocean at the RWCMD; The Protest at the Old Vic; Selfie: The Modern Day Dorian Gray at the Ambassadors; Tender Bolus at the Royal Exchange and Schauspielhaus, Hamburg; Gardening for the Unfulfilled and Alienated (Fringe First Award 2013) for Undeb at the Edinburgh Festival; Soap Opera, Where the Shot Rabbits Lay and Permafrost at the Royal Court; Even Stillness Breathes Softly Against a Brick Wall at Soho Theatre; Want For Nothing-For Waifs and Strays at the Lyric Hammersmith; Light Arrested Between the Curtain and the Glass at Sherman Cymru; Sunflowers and The Snow Queen at Theatr Powys; and Can't Smile Wide Enough for CARAD. He won the Pick of the Year Award at the VAULT festival in 2017, the Harold Pinter Commission in 2016 and the Fringe First Award in 2013.
