Product Description

by C. Z. Vardley (Author)

BEYOND the ICE WALL by C. Z. Vardley Vegetation killing virus (VKV) has escaped and is destroying civilization after 2026 and thus thinning oxygen from the atmosphere drastically. Near the end of the 24th Century mankind has long been totally dominated by a group called Ultimate Control Command (UCC). This organization has forced the reverse evolution of people until they are only tiny in body and without much spirit. They must breathe through tubes attached to backpacks, like ocean divers do today. The virus can't reproduce in ice, so the few humans still alive exist behind a high ice wall they've built across southern Alaska and Canada. A few normal sized workers are kept as slaves to maintain the ice wall, until two escape. This starts a chase involving tiny soldiers and a giant robot with polar bears as its trackers. A big flying saucer Generadmiral Schnicknalgruten Pavlich commands, while bossing and intimidating everyone, is an important feature of the story. His powers are finally challenged by a totally surprising source and the final fight for the world occurs.

Author Biography

C. Z. VARDLEY (pen name for sci fi genre of Charles W. Allen, Jr.) Born in 1942 in Seguin, Texas, Charles was an 'Air Force brat' who grew up in many places. From Texas to California to Alabama to Alaska to Alabama (again) to England to Georgia, back to Texas (for the next 43 years) and finally to Arkansas in 2003 for retirement. The U S Air Force had his services for four years, then he earned BS & MS degrees at Baylor University. He also matriculated at Texas University and Houston University. Becoming a tenured history professor met a treasured goal, but his personal history confuses folks because of his athletics experiences, as well. Known as 'Chuck', he became an assistant Baylor Bears football coach, then the head coach of a Texas Junior College basketball program...winning the conference title in the third season there. He also coached high school football and baseball, along with basketball in his 32 years coaching career. His collegiate bowling teams won eight titles in twelve seasons...but his 'most nerve-wracking and yet enjoyable' sports activity was refereeing Dallas Cowboys practices for four Summers. They were NFL champs three of those seasons. Married to a lovely Texas high school math teacher/cheerleaders coach since 1964, he is the dad of two sons. Four grandkids grace the family, as well. In retirement he's penned many novels, short stories and two screenplays. He keeps busy these days with basketball, golf, tennis and bowling. The couple are hosts of a big dance each month and they perform a 'Funny Songs Show' quite often. Hundreds of folks really enjoy those gigs, too!
