This book is about a region, some of the peoples who live in that region, and traditional relationships that tie people to places within that region. The region is the Pimeria Alto, or central Arizona--Sonora Borderlines. Although this is not a history book, it deals with living cultural traditions that exist alongside the mainstream American culture with which most of us are most familiar.

James S. Griffith is the former director of the Southwest Folklore Center at the University of Arizona Library. He is currently a research associate at the Southwest Center.
