Product Description

by James M. Larson (Author)

A collection of autobiographical writings by Rev. Asle Knudsen, a founding member of the Norwegian-Danish Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church and one of the Conference's "most outstanding and influential men."

Asle Knudsen In His Own Words: Memories of a Circuit-Riding Pioneer Preacher spans Asle's life from his childhood in Hol, Hallingdal, Norway to his coming to America, his conversion to Methodism, and his joining the clergy. He was a gifted preacher and served many congregations in the Midwest, large and small. A charismatic leader, he served 13 years as District Superintendent of the Saint Paul, Red River Valley, and Chicago Districts.

Includes:

  • Asle's diary covering the years 1844-1910, newly transcribed and annotated.
  • Letters Asle wrote to his church newspaper from 1914 to 1934, translated into English for the first time.
  • A three-generation lineage tracing Asle's ancestry back to his paternal grandfather.
  • Complete with an introduction by the author, a bibliography, and an index.
