Product Description

by Lisa R. Tomoleoni (Author), Michelle L. Tate (Author)

This collection of writings on training in Aikido, a traditional mind-body art, comes from the perspective of two instructors, Michelle L. Tate and Lisa R. Tomoleoni, who see themselves as lifelong students of the art. Presented alternatively in pithy prose and delightful verse interspersed with excellent photographs, this book takes the reader through the authors' journey of life lessons gained through sustained training. We get an insider's view of training at the Aikido Hombu Dojo and in Iaido from Tomoleoni Sensei and glimpses of the landscape shaped by Aikido in Tate Sensei's mind. What shines through the narration is their sense of gratitude for the art and their teachers. Together these two viewpoints combine to create a book that is hoped to be inspirational, and to share the growth, challenge, joy and fulfillment that this particular form of training has brought them, and continues to bring to their lives.

Author Biography

Michelle L. Tate grew up in Chicago, the youngest of 7 and fortunate enough to be raised by one who encouraged exploration and growth in all directions. At a young age, she began writing, influenced by things around her, both visible and non-visible. Treasured experiences built an interest in the exploration of life and spirit energy through many avenues. These studies and pursuits continue through her practice of Aikido and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Michelle is a licensed acupuncturist and co-founder the Abiding Spirit Center, a wellness center in Crystal Lake, IL, and an Aikido instructor at the Abiding Spirit Aikikai and the Aikido Shimbokukai. Lisa R. Tomoleoni has been training in Aikido for over 20 years. She spent over 13 years in Japan, training at the Aikido world Headquarters and teaching Aikido at a branch dojo in Tokyo. She is the chief instructor of the Abiding Spirit Aikikai, and the director of the Aikido Shimbokukai. She is also a licensed acupuncturist and the co-founder of the Abiding Spirit Center, a wellness center in Crystal Lake, IL.
