Author Biography

After his 35-year exciting career in diving, Spence retired from the diving field and returned to his first love, aviation and flying. He and his wife Marie own and operate Aviation Training Center. After operating for 19 years at Boeing Field in Seattle, they recently moved their business to the Renton Municipal Airport in Renton, WA. In his 25 years in aviation, Spence has earned the reputation of being a well-known Instrument Training Specialist and his wife Marie as a well-known Aviation Career Counselor. Their business has won many aviation awards and Spence has received many personal aviation awards including the FAA Wright Brother's Master Pilot Award. In 2006 he published his first book, "Lewis & Clark and Me," a story about his epic swim down the Clearwater, Snake, and Columbia Rivers to Astoria, OR. The book was the 2006 runner-up for book of the year for the Idaho State Library Association. In the spring of 2014 Spence received the Northwest Diving Pioneer Award and in November of 2015 he was inducted into the Diving Hall of Honor for the National Association of Underwater Instructors. In November of 2017 Spence will receive the NAUI Lifetime Achievement Award. It's a well-known saying that "life can have its ups and downs" but for this author, it's a literal description of how he lived.
