Author Biography

Deirdre Boyd is CEO of the Addiction Recovery Foundation, editor of Addiction Today - the only journal in the UK showing how to recover from addiction/dependency, and cofounder/organiser of the UK/European Symposia on Addictive Disorders, the largest addiction-recovery event in Europe. Her first version of this book sold out in seven languages. She also wrote mental-health charity Mind's booklet on Understanding Addiction/Dependency. She is a member of the Centre for Policy Studies' Prisons and Addictions think-tank, of the Recovery Academy, of the Recovery Group UK and of the UK Recovery Foundation. She participated in the dti's Office of Science & Technology project on Brain Science, Addiction and Drugs, forecasting the next two decades. She was a trustee of the National Association for Children of Alcoholics UK. In 2006, ICAA awarded her the Dr Vincent Bakeman memorial award for Outstanding Community Service. She received a 2010 Pillar Of The Community award at Sierra Tucson's first UK awards ceremony.
