On a wet and stormy night, a baby box turtle is ready to hatch and is delighted that the first thing he sees after coming out of his shell is the face of his mother. The only trouble is the face he sees is Lula's. Lula is a cat. With no other turtles around, and no way to dissuade this adoring baby, Lula, reluctantly adopts the turtle. As he grows, he would like nothing more than to be just like his mom and begins to call himself Fluffy. He eventually discovers that he and his mother live on the property of an old man who likes to fish and talk to animals. In this funny and heartwarming story, Fluffy must deal with the forces of nature and his discovery of being very different from everyone else he knows, especially his own mother.
