Author Biography

Johnnie Mullinax Johnson passed away Monday, June 15, 2009, in Tyler at the age of 85. She was born on March 30, 1924 in Winnsboro, Texas, to the late Claxton Napolean Mullinax and Essie Ruth Shelby Mullinax. She was past president of the Athens Genealogy Association, and member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. With her late husband she co-founded the Pea Picker Newspaper in Athens and in 1975 they opened the Pea Picker Bookstores in Athens and Tyler. She authored three published genealogy books of the Shelby Family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Dan A. Johnson; brother, Otto B. Mullinax; and two sisters, Xelma Varley and Verlie Shock. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Jon Dan and Sharon Johnson of Whitehouse; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Pat Ragsdale of Winnsboro; grandchildren, Ken Ragsdale and wife Elaina, Patti Mayberry, Danielle Bolanowski and husband David, Christopher Dan Johnson; great-grandchildren, Conner Ragsdale, Cason Ragsdale, Caitlin Johnson, Grayson Mayberry and Greenlee Mayberry.
