When an express rider from Massachusetts arrives in the small backcountry town of Charlotte, he brings with him word that the British Army has made battle with the colonists in Concord and Lexington. Enraged, frightened, and emboldened by the news, the fiery Scots-Irish frontiersman of Mecklenburg County decide to go further than any of their peers on the continent and declare independence.
