This textbook has a dual aim: both to introduce students to a range of research methods at a practical level, and to sensitise them to the political dimension of research (namely, how social problems, and perceived solutions to them, are constructed). Beth Humphries is a writer and researcher who has practised, taught and studied social work for many years. She has worked in universities across the UK and is currently a visiting professor at Manchester Metropolitan University. Her special research interest is in social work, immigration control and asylum and she has published extensively in this field.
