A rich, informative, and easy to follow step-by-step guide for planning and designing your own green home. Written for DIYers who want to design and build, and for those hiring engineers, architects, or contractors this book provides sound tips for ensuring a home is comfortable, energy smart, and eco-friendly. Creating a Green Home helps anyone planning a home to preserve natural resources and save money. Loaded with illustrations and helpful design checklists, Creating a Green Home tells the importance of site selection, how to orient a home for optimal energy efficiency, foundation types, roof styles, functional and artful floor plans and more. The book is written by owner-builders who make it clear that careful planning and design can save home owners money, time, and headaches during construction and long after a home is built.
