Hebert J. Gans is Professor of Sociology at Columbia University. His other books are The Levittowners, People and Plans, More Equality, Popular Culture and High Culture, and Deciding What's News: A Study of CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News, Newsweek, and Time.
