They even, finally, designed a new world order to promote lasting peace. The Historians emerge from that world to mingle with and report on us in ours, undercover, during the Pandemic.
A blunder by one of these Historians triggers a potentially disastrous alternate history. That blunder puts a boy's life at risk and threatens the future of the world - but the job of repairing this "anomaly" is so dirty that only individuals with no empathy or emotional responses are suited for the task. For this reason, the Historians sent to complete this assignment are psychopaths.
